We all love to play with seasonal trends but some aren't right for curvy girls. While you're shopping for a warmer wardrobe, keep this advice in mind.
Do's
Kimonos- This is a great trend for curves! Kimonos are flowy and oversized, floating right over the curves. The embellishment that comes with most kimonos also draws attention away from problem areas. Festival clothes are great this Summer, take advantage of this fun, flattering trend.
Embellishment- Poms and Fringe are everywhere you look and they are encouraged! Embellishments in the right places will bring positive attention where you want it. Look for pieces that are embellished away from problem areas such as embroidery on the top of the blouse as opposed to the bottom, which is close to the stomach area.
Mixed Media- This is a fun trend to try, especially if done carefully. Large prints are a great option for curvy girls. Look for patterns that are slimming, nothing concentrated around your stomach, and watch out for anything that makes you look wider like horizontal stripes.
Don'ts
Nautical- Be really careful with the nautical trend. It is the main promoter of horizontal stripes which only make you look wider. Nautical also marries light colors with dark. Depending on where colors, such as white, sit, it could draw emphasis in a place you don't want.
Jumpsuits- It's pretty much best to stay completely away from these. They are super cute but cut you in the worst area. There is no give in the stomach area with these since it is one long piece. I've tried on various jumpsuits plus size and not and haven't ever found a flattering one yet.
Crop Tops- Enough said. If you have a stomach that you don't want to flaunt, these are something to definitely skip. Longer tops are always the best way to go.
In the Middle
Sheer- This trend is one to be careful with. Sheer can be a really cute trend to indulge in but it needs to be done just right. Pay attention to where the sheer parts are and avoid anything you don't feel comfortable with. Always wear a flattering piece underneath sheer clothing such as a long, dark dolman tank. This will help you wear this trend thoughtfully.
Khaki- A good pair of khakis are hard to find. They are light and can easily show off problems areas, including cellulite depending on how thin the material is. If you want to get a pair, go on a serious search of try ons and don't settle. Khaki jackets and accessories may be a better way to take part in this trend.
